In a conversation with Mundo Acuícola, the Governor of the region, Jorge Flies, gave his vision of the salmon farming industry, highlighting its relevance for the economic and social development of the region. “Salmon farming and all its work in fishing is today the most economically important sector in the Magallanes Region, not only for its productive impact, but also for the labor impact and the work it is doing in each of the provinces and in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region,” said Flies.

The governor pointed out that his administration has held meetings with companies, associations and workers in the sector to address specific needs, with a view to long-term sustainable development. “We have to look at production, the sustainability of the company in the long term. As a regional government, we have said it, we are not going to ask for anything more and nothing less than what the law requires in the productive and environmental sphere,” he said.

Flies also emphasized the importance of a balance between productivity, environmental care and the well-being of people. “We hope that this value that we have in productivity, in the region, will continue with great strength in the Magallanes region, but also with the care of its workers, the environment and an optimal community relationship”, he assured.

In a message of support to the sector, the governor reaffirmed his willingness to work together with the actors involved. “Success in the coming years and count on my contribution during this administration”, concluded Flies.
