Aquasur Tech 2025, organized by FISA of the GL events group, kicked off its second version at the Dreams Hotel in Punta Arenas, with the participation of regional authorities, representatives of the sector and national and international experts, who highlighted the importance of innovation and sustainability for the future of the industry.
The inauguration was attended by the governor of the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, Jorge Flies; the president of the Magallanes Salmon Farmers Association, Carlos Odebret; the manager of CMPC Ventures and Main Sponsor of Aquasur Tech 2025, Diego Cerboni; the commander-in-chief of the Third Naval Zone, Rear Admiral Jorge Castillo; the general manager of FISA, Carola Fuentes; the SEREMI of Economy, Development and Tourism of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, Marlene España; and the regional director of Sernapesca Magallanes, Ximena Gallardo.
During her inaugural speech, Carola Fuentes, general manager of FISA, highlighted the success of the first version, and added that “in this second edition we have doubled the exhibition space, allowing more companies to present their innovations and contributions to the sector”.

Carlos Odebret, president of the Magallanes Salmon Farmers Association, highlighted the importance of the region for the aquaculture industry and the need to promote collaborative work. “With the realization of this event in the Magallanes Region it is realized that this is a tremendously relevant region for salmon farming and also, both the present and the potential development that this region has. Therefore, the message is that we need to work collaboratively to be able to build a strong and powerful industry in the Magallanes Region that can deliver benefits to all citizens,” he said.

Jorge Flies, governor of the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, emphasized that “this fair represents a great opportunity for the Magallanes Region, not only because it strengthens the aquaculture sector, but also other industries present in the area. We hope that Aquasur Tech will continue to be held in our region”.
AquaSur Tech 2025 has an exhibition of more than 120 national and international companies. In parallel, its International Congress addresses eight thematic axes through more than 45 conferences given by leading specialists.

“During these two days, we will address key challenges. We will analyze evidence-based perspectives on aquaculture health and production, highlighting scientific and technological advances that optimize animal welfare and production efficiency. We will also explore new solutions to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint, with a focus on green hydrogen and its integration as a key energy source for cleaner production,” added Carola Fuentes.
The first day of the international congress began with a presentation by Carlos Odebret, president of the Magallanes Salmon Farmers Association, who highlighted the importance of Magellanic salmon for investment and regional development.
Throughout the day, 11 talks were held on production and health in salmon farming, genetic editing, artificial intelligence, sustainability, efficiency, optimization of the use of drugs and welfare at harvest, addressing the main technological and sustainable challenges of the industry.
