IctioBiotic is a Chilean EBCT founded in 2018 that is revolutionizing aquaculture with the development of immunostimulant probiotics designed to improve sanitation in fish farms. Its products not only strengthen the immune response of fish, but also contribute to reducing antibiotic use, improving animal welfare and optimizing industry productivity. The great value of probiotics lies in their biological nature, their cost-effectiveness and their easy administration through the diet. In addition, they are a sustainable and safe alternative for both animals and the environment. In 2022, IctioBiotic launched its first product, IKA Forte®, a probiotic that stimulates the cellular immune response in salmon. Industry companies have successfully used this product for the management of SRS in highly complex farms, preventing regrowth, improving overall fish health, protecting biomass, increasing productivity and significantly reducing the use of antibiotics. As salmon farming faces new health challenges, IctioBiotic continues to innovate. In 2024, the company conducted the first validations of IKA Forte® in farms affected by Renibacterium salmoninarum, the bacterium responsible for BKD, obtaining excellent results in protecting against this disease. During this year, the team will focus on strengthening the evidence of its efficacy against this pathogen. Looking to the future, IctioBiotic is developing new probiotics targeting other critical health problems in the aquaculture industry. It is currently working on a probiotic to protect salmon against viral infections and another against Tenacibaculosis, both with the goal of reaching the market in 2026. In addition to its impact on salmon farming, the company has expanded its line of development into probiotics for tilapia and shrimp, with the goal of improving productivity in key markets such as Peru, Ecuador, Mexico and Asia. With a solid scientific base and a sustainability-oriented vision, IctioBiotic continues to position itself as a key player in the transformation of global aquaculture.
