On Thursday, the annual session of the Regional Commission of Coastal Use (Crubc) was held at the Government of Magallanes. The members voted on major maritime concessions for hydrogen projects, a dock and dry dock in Puerto Natales, as well as the claim on a request for an Original People’s Marine Coastal Space (Ecmpo) that was rejected, and also a new salmon farming initiative.
Regarding the latter project, which was approved, a maritime concession was requested in Natales, in Puerto Bories, by Inversiones y Asesorías Edén, whose representative is the businessman Eugenio Suárez, from the same Magallanes Region.
Thus, the Krren project is a transfer plant for salmon harvesting, requires 4 buoys to support the wellboats, 1 raft to place a suction pump and 1 salt pipeline to the beach.
It includes a 400 square meter warehouse, and the operation also means a considerable improvement in salmon harvesting, with lower sanitary risks due to spills and greater safety for personnel, given that it is close to the farming centers and has good access for trucks going to the processing plants.
An investment of 4 million dollars is contemplated, the generation of 40 direct jobs -and it is expected to operate in 2 shifts, reaching 80 hires- and also indirect jobs for transportation, cleaning services, supplies, electrical and hydraulic technicians, and others.
And according to Suárez’s statement at the Crubc, with the two wellboats that will be used, the investment will be up to 100 million dollars.
The Australis Seafoods and AquaChile plants have a salmoduct; before, harvesting was done in the same cultivation centers, which required a lot of personnel outside and more vessels sailing, but today this has improved.
In this way, the transfer plant does the work of nocking and gilling the salmon, which is then directed through the constructed line to a truck with Flow ice, which takes it to the processing plant along with the blood water that is properly treated.
